See: The Vivos mRNA Appliance Didn't Improve My Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

This update is delayed by a month while I’ve been busy dealing with other things, such as recovering from nasal surgery. It’s mainly for people who love graphs because I couldn’t use my CPAP machine for three weeks after the surgery, so the pressure trend analysis is a bit useless but I’ll include it anyway for completeness.

After the disappointing result from my recent CBCT scan, I’m back to wearing my appliance again but not expanding it anymore. I will get another sleep study done in 5 months’ time when my nose is fully healed to see what impact the surgery and my appliance has had. In the meantime, I’ll wear my new facemask as much as possible to see what forward growth I can still get.

I’m not optimistic about all this and suspect I’ll end up needing jaw surgery, but I need to wait for my nose to heal anyway and I may as well wear the appliance and facemask in the meantime to see what happens. I have an appointment with my provider next week to see my new airway intelligence report from the latest CBCT scan, so I’ll also consider what it says moving forward.

My usage time was down this month as I was prioritising recovery from nasal surgery and myofunctional therapy. Part of the myofunctional therapy involves wearing a little stick-on spot in my mouth to retrain my tongue to rest in the proper position during the day, and I can’t wear the appliance at the same time.

Fifteen Months Vivos mRNA Appliance Usage

I couldn’t use my CPAP machine while recovering from nasal surgery, which is why there is no CPAP data on the graphs after 19th December 2021. I wore my mRNA to hold my lower jaw forward in the hope of keeping my airway open, but still woke up choking every hour or so, had night sweats, needed to get up to go to the toilet a lot and woke up with a headache; classic obstructive sleep apnea signs.

Graham,
Just saying hello hope all is well, I’ve been following for a long time now, when this was primarily a CFS blog. Just curious, how is your CFS these days, have you progressed in that area, do you still get PEM..

Hi Erik. How I feel tends to depend on how I slept the night before. When my CPAP machine reports a high AHI, which is mostly due to central events, I tend to feel tired during the day. I still don’t do cardio exercise, but I notice I get quite tired after physical activity. I don’t get wiped out the next day or anything though. I still think my CFS symptoms are due to OSA, but I was talking to a guy in a similar position to me who said he felt great when he was on CPAP; he just didn’t like lugging the machine around on hiking trips and having the battery go flat while camping. I’m not really like that, I still feel tired on CPAP.

Hopefully correcting the sleep issues will reduce the CFS with time, I’ve found alot of benefits from buteyko breathing and using the relaxator… Both reduce your breathing and make you breath slower, deeper and lighter…
