For some insane reason, only two Australian DNA Appliance providers are listed in Vivos’s provider locator; and they’re both in Sydney. This leads a lot of people in other states of Australia to contact me in despair because they think they can’t get treatment; yet there are other providers out there so here’s a list of all the ones I’ve heard of. I”ve just finished watching Tom Colquitt’s epic 7 hour video series Stories from the road on the Walk To Wellness, and wanted to promote it here because it contains so much wisdom about healing chronic illness by addressing airway, breathing and sleep. I wish I’d known about this information years ago when I was desperately ill and looking for answers that weren’t forthcoming from my doctors.
I did about 18 months research into palate expansion and surgical options for treating my severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). I was guided by the idea that the best treatment is likely to be the one that most directly addresses the root cause: Underdeveloped jaws exacerbated by the extraction/retraction orthodontic treatment I had when I was 13, leaving me with an airway which is too small to breathe through during sleep.
Along the way I tried many alternative treatments for OSA with limited success, and the two dominant mainstream treatments: a Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD) and Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) machine. Aside from the lack of success I had with the MAD, I find both of these unsatisfactory because they only deal with symptoms without addressing the underlying cause, allowing the untreated condition to progressively get worse over time. One option I considered for treating my obstructive sleep apnea was Dr Theodore Belfor’s Homeoblock appliance. I had a one-on-one consultation online with Dr Belfor to evaluate my CBCT scan and see if it would work for me. At the time, there were no Homeoblock providers in Sydney so it turned out not to be an option. However, I did learn a lot in the process. (more…)
